As a motor mechanic at Kalum Bodywork Ltd, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various types of motor vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition. The role requires diagnosing faults using specialized tools, replacing or repairing faulty components, and carrying out routine servicing and maintenance. The motor mechanic plays a key role in delivering quality service, maintaining customer trust, and ensuring vehicle safety and compliance. You will work closely with other team members to meet deadlines and exceed customer expectations. This role requires a keen eye for detail, good physical stamina, and a passion for delivering standard results.


Duties and Responsibilities:

A motor mechanic for an independent auto repair shop duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

  • Carry out detailed mechanical inspections to identify faults and issues in engines, transmissions, steering systems, brakes, suspension, exhausts, and more.

  • Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify electronic faults and interpret error codes.

  • Conduct test drives to aid in diagnosis and verify repairs.

  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid top-ups, tire changes, battery checks, and brake servicing.

  • Remove and replace faulty parts such as belts, hoses, spark plugs, radiators, clutches, and gearboxes.

  • Adjust and tune engine components and systems for optimal performance.

  • Conduct air conditioning servicing and re-gassing when qualified to do so.

  • Complete job cards with detailed notes on work carried out, parts used, and time taken.

  • Update maintenance logs and service history records as per company procedures.

  • Communicate technical issues and work progress clearly to supervisors and service advisors.

  • Occasionally explain vehicle issues and required repairs to customers in a clear and professional manner.

  • Offer guidance on proper vehicle maintenance and safe usage where applicable.

  • Ensure all tools and diagnostic equipment are used and maintained correctly.

  • Follow workshop safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Maintain a clean and organised working environment.

The candidate should have some experience in the described role. They must also be dependable. We are looking to fill this role full-time and long-term.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role in a vehicle workshop.

  • Must be able to work under pressure in a team and on their own.

  • Demonstrated strong work ethic.

  • Experience in a body shop environment is essential

  • Experience in welding.

  • All work must be accurate and consistent, adhering to all processes and manufacturer standards

  • Classic/Modern vehicle experience is an advantage.

  • Must have a technical qualification or NVQ, IMI or City & Guilds qualified to a minimum of level 3 or equivalent.

  • Maintain a professional appearance.

  • Punctual nature and ability to handle schedule flexibility and dynamic work environment.

  • Must have good personal discipline (punctual, self-managed)

  • Basic working knowledge of computers.

  • Having a good working knowledge of Repair Methods.

  • Being proactive in identifying and implementing effective working processes

  • Must have high standards of customer service, be a positive and effective communicator, and consistently adhere to strict processes.

  • Previous experience in bodyshop repairs

  • Team player who uses initiative

  • Flexibility and a can-do attitude.

  • Cultural and organisational insight and takes responsibility for own actions.

  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a workshop environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: TBA

Shift & Schedule: 07:30 - 17:30 Monday - Friday

08:00 - 13.00 Saturday
